May 16, 2021 – In the 1st tournament of the 2021 season, Nikki Suyama defeated Bob Owens in the finals of the World Championship Eliminator.
Suyama won with her rendition of Adele’s “All I Ask” 88-84 over Owens’ version of the Luthor Vandross classic “Always and Forever”. She didn’t let her nerves show but she felt them. “I feel great … and relieved. The anxiety and anticipation when your sitting and waiting for the scores to come in, it’s a lot,” Suyama said. “The chance to go up against these talented singers is the reason I love to do this.”
By winning the tournament, Ms. Suyama now has a chance to challenge the Karaoke Champion of the World, “The Boss” Miriam Kim in a future WKT World Title sing-off. The finals were the first time two titleholders went head-to-head in a tournament. Suyama is currently the North American champion while Owens is the reigning World Masters champion.
With the 1st tournament in the books, the World Karaoke Tour will be announcing their future slate of events next week.
